I want to keep Premiere Elements 12 open and running but switch between other programs at the same time

Hi, I want to keep the 'tape' running so to speak in Premiere Elements 12 but switch to other programs on my computer at the same time. However everytime I leave the Premiere window it automatically stops. I used to use Audition a lot and could flip back and forth all the time between programs. Do you know how I can change a setting that will allow me to do the latter? Thanks, R
