Perhaps "useless", as you say, because you are confused about the terminology. Why would anyone, 'noob' or otherwise, type a URL into the 'Google Search Bar', when it will simply bring up a list of search results that may happen to include the actual site you are trying to find? Why not type the URL directly into the Address Bar of the particular browser you are using? And just in case you mean to indicate the 'Search Bar' to the right of the browser's 'Address Bar', that is NOT the 'Google Search Bar' as you clearly specified in your question. My reply was spot-on.
