When you were playing back the Timeline content in the Edit area monitor, was the Timeline content unrendered or rendered?
Unrender is represented by an orange line over the Timeline content, and no color line or green line represents rendered.
If unrendered, then click on the Render button above the Timeline. After that is complete, is the Timeline playback better?
